Mário Barbosa é presidente do Instituto Nacional de Engenharia Biomédica.Em 2001 recebeu em Londres o George Winter Prize, o maior prémio europeu de biomateriais.É coordenador do NEWTherapies Group do INEBThe main aim of the NEWTherapies Group is to develop Nanomedicine integrated approaches towards biomaterials-guided tissue regeneration, focusing mostly on Neuroscience and Osteoarticular applications. New strategies for cancer prevention and treatment are also being explored.To fulfill these objectives the group is committed to elicit the desired biological responses through the understanding and guidance of matrix-cell and cell-cell interactions, as well as through the design of surface/matrix functionalization at the molecular level.Its activity is structured around 3 research programs: * Biomaterials for bone regeneration; * Biomaterials for Neurosciences; * Biological interactions onto nanostructured biomaterials.
