Ear on Arm
Stelarc is a performance artist who has visually probed and acoustically amplified his body. He has made 3 films of the inside of his body. Between 1976-1988 he completed 25 body suspension performances with hooks into the skin. He has used medical instruments, prosthetics, robotics, Virtual Reality systems, the Internet and biotechnology to explore alternate, intimate and involuntary interfaces with the body. He has performed with a THIRD HAND, a VIRTUAL ARM, a STOMACH SCULPTURE and EXOSKELETON, a 6-legged walking robot. His FRACTAL FLESH, PING BODY and PARASITE performances explored involuntary, remote and internet choreography of the body with electrical stimulation of the muscles. His PROSTHETIC HEAD is an embodied conversational agent that speaks to the person who interrogates it. He is surgically constructing an EXTRA EAR on his arm that will be internet enabled, making it publicly accessible acoustical organ for people in other places. He is presently performing as his avatar from his SECOND LIFE site.
Orelha no Braço
Stelarc é um artista de performance que tem vindo a sondar visualmente e a amplificar acusticamente o seu corpo. Fez 3 filmes sobre o interior do corpo. Entre 1976-1988, efectuou 25 performances de suspensões com ganchos na pele. Utilizou dispositivos médicos, próteses, robótica e sistemas de Realidade Virtual, a Internet e a biotecnologia para explorar interfaces alternativos, íntimos e involuntários com o corpo. Fez performances com uma TERCEIRA MÃO, um BRAÇO VIRTUAL, uma ESCULTURA ESTOMACAL e o EXOSKELETON, um robô andante com 6 pernas. As suas performances CARNE FRACTAL, CORPO PING e PARASITA exploravam a coreografia do corpo, de características involuntárias, remotas e activadas pela internet, activada através da estimulação electrónica dos músculos. A sua CABEÇA PROTÉSICA é um agente corpóreo de conversação, que fala com a pessoa que o interroga. Stelarc está a construir cirurgicamente uma ORELHA EXTRA no seu braço, que irá ter ligação à internet, tornando-o um órgão acústico acessível a pessoas localizadas noutros locais. Actualmente, está activo como o seu próprio avatar no site SECOND LIFE.
